I wish you have PD of 2001/2002. I had the same dream when I came here 8 years ago.
If you are new to US(1-3 years, from the spark in your statements, I feel you are.) with having PD 2003 or later, only the SKIL bill or CIR could rescue you. Othewise, you will be one among 1million in 2011 talking like us.
Its very interesting reading everyone's stories. To me GC represents freedom. Freedom to work for whom you want to, in a field you want to, not to work for someone you don't want to. To start your own buisness, to do all those things which US is known for. This country encourages entrepreneurs and I would like to be one, one of these days :).

Typically, if someone is doing a AC21 jump + H1b transfer, it means that the h1b gets transferred to the new employer and the new employer is the h1b petitioner. If the h1b is based on an approved 140 - the beneficiary gets it for 3 years and unless the person is completing his 3 years with the new employer when the 140 revoke happens, the h1b is still valid unless the new employer decides he will cancel it or the person is layed off and thats when the person is in deep trouble because he/she does not have EAD. Correct me if I am wrong. H1b revocation by ex employer may not affect the candidate because candidate already did a transfer

aiming london shooting tokyo, thats exactly what this bill is doing. The vast majority of nonsense is created by small "con"sulting companies, i.e shell companies with less than 50 employees. Infact Schummer if he wanted a solution for h1b missue should have gone after these small "con"sulting companies rather than real multi national companies like infosys,tcs, wipro etc. I am not a fan of this bill but if you going to put restrictions on h1b do it the right way. it is these small "con"sulting companies with less than 50 employees that did illegal things like selling approved labor until using approved labor was abolished, it is these small "con"sulting companies which work on 80 20 model which are bringing disrepute to h1b and people working on h1b. by putting this rediculous rule which says only comapnies having more than 50 employess will be targetted by this law schummer inadvertently is encouraging the setup of more "con"sulting companies. The vast majority of green cards issued in the last 5 years (may be as hight as 80% of green cards) have been issued to the "con"sultants" working in these "con"sulting companies. People working in fortune 500 companies abide by all rules like it is the job responsibily which determines eb1, eb2 or eb3 and not your educational qualifications and therefore i have seen phd recepients applying in eb3 whereas the "con"sultants working in these "con"sulting companies who have sometimes b.sc bcom or btech degrees applying in eb2 by faking experience to show 5 years requirement, they work in SAP but they advertise the position as someone needing java or any programming experience. this is outright lying, how can people working in fortune 500 and legitemate companies complete with these "con"sultants and these "con"sulting companies with less than 50 employees for green cards.
For green card reform the biggest culprit is per country limit\quota, the above issue is small compared to the country quota but it still needs to be solved.

There are so many who missed the July 07...
we should try to seek temporary relief..allowing to file for 485 even without PD veing current.
CIR will happen when it has to happen..maybe after the health bill ...but IV not doing anything else while waiting for it is sad....

We need to start a Letter Campaign next.
A focussed uniform format with some lead from IV. But now focus on San Jose,CA's rally efforts.

I studied in IIT (B.Tech), got M.S. and Ph.D. from here and now a professor. My observations/opinions are as follows:

I have the misfortune of teaching 100's of students who come here with an Anna University (or Osmania) B.Tech./B.E. degree in engineering, and knows absolutely nothing. And I am not exaggerating: they cannot write an elementary program in any language (apparently they learn something called "theoretical" computer programming in which they do not actually learn to program); does not know any mathematics (most cannot integrate x*exp(x); one student could not tell me what is f(0.7) by looking at a graph of x vs. f(x)) and cannot operate simple lab equipments. It is just unbelievable! Anyway, moving on.
I am not sure why people jump onto drawing conclusions so fast...look at the above post from a so called professor....he encountered a couple of a folks from some universities & concludes that those universities are just crappy....!! Many of my colleagues are from the professors' "oh-so-good" list of IITs/univs and they are no better!! (In fact, some of them suck so bad)!!

Now another question for you prof....how come are you working in a university that's giving admissions to such a bunch of crappy folks...!!?? My lawyers have just said I will NOT get an EAD because I don't have a visascreen. EVEN though I have a USA RN license.

Numerous students on F1 visa applied 485 and got their GC these years.
One's I-485 can be filed only for visas with dual intent status. For instance, an F visa or a B2 visa person (currently not dual intent visas) cannot apply for I-485. This was the basis on which I made that statement. Everyone is free to interpret differently. Again, I am not an attorney and I might be wrong.

During previous phone call campaigns, our members came out w/huge numbers and were instrumental in getting the support. This I know because the Senators office phones were just constantly busy and once you started mentioning high skilled, they would know and finish your statements for you. This time though, that does not seem to be the case. Please, please step up. I just called 4 out of TIER 1 again.

That is not true. Receipt Date is when the service center physically receives the package. They date stamp it and then use it to enter that RD when they generate the Notice on the ND.
What you see on the status page for sure reflects the ND and NOT the RD. So you can pretty much ignore what the status page says and rely on what your physical notice says (it states the actual RD when they physically received the package!)

What about receipt notices? Isn't that teh first step? I do not believe it will take 20 months to get a receipt notice. Are you sure they have only 30 folks for EAD. Is that a known fact? What if it is 300?

If the girl is working and earning money, she has all the rights to spend the way she wants, including giving money to her parents. If she is not working, then help should be based only on humanitarian basis because we never know when one's financial situation changes. I can't understand how any girl can force her husband to spend for her parents and siblings especially when she is not earning.
I fully support need based humantarian help. Irrespective of daughter earning or not, most
parents (in middle class) in india WILL not accept beyond a token. Gifts/help to siblings is some what natural. There is a limit to everything and people should understand this and draw a line.

We just need 20,000 active members to make a change, which is approx 10% of the total number of GC apps pending. At the most 2000 people are active.
If somebody can being in 20,000 active members to this forum, the change will happen.
I dont think all the 20,000 members need to be active every day or every week. What is that you are expecting them to be active every day. If we are not able to pull the crowd, it is not the inability of the crowd but the leadership. Crowd whether it is Indian or other is always like that. It is the effective leadership that makes the difference. For example if you take Martin Luther King, Gandhi or for that matter any leader, it is their speeches/actions that inspired people to involve in the movement not just the people came all by themselves.
